What is rush? Rush consists of a series of dates when Phi Sigma Pi holds events open to the entire campus community that allow you to get to know who we are and allow us to get to know you. Rush usually occurs during one of the first few weeks of each semester. Each night may feature a different activity. Past rush activities include ultimate frisbee, pie-eating contests, making valentines for nursing home residents, info nights, volleyball, and cookouts. When are the rush dates? Rush for the Spring 2008 semester is being planned now! Continue to check this site for updates. Also, look for our table at the student activities fair, letters in the mail, and posters on campus to find out where we will be and when.

Is there a selection process? Yes. Phi Sigma Pi is based on a tripod of scholarship, leadership, and
fellowship. We only recruit individuals who demonstrate dedication the
following: Individuals who meet the academic criteria are normally notified by mail with invitations to attend rush. During rush, brothers make every attempt to get to know you to determine whether you meet the other two criteria. Therefore, it is vital that you attend as many rush events as possible to show your dedication to joining our organization and to enable us to make an informed decision about inviting you to join. Unfortunately we cannot always extend a bid to join our organization to every qualified individual who comes to rush. The number of people who are given bids depends on the number of brothers who are able to become big brothers. "Bigs" serve as guides to new members as they travel through the initiation process. If you do not receive a bid the first semester you come to rush, please consider trying again next semester.

What is the initiation process? The initiation process is an eight-week program during which initiates learn about our organization in greater depth, plan and participate in chapter events like socials and service projects, and interview brothers. Successful completion of the initiation process is necessary to become a brother of Phi Sigma Pi. Individuals who do not demonstrate the essential qualities of a brother will not be inducted into the chapter. What kind of time commitment is involved? The initiation process may sound overwhelming at first, but most people who experience initiation find that it actually enhances their time-management skills. In fact most of our brothers still find time to be involved in other extra-curricular activities, including work, theater, sports, music and dance groups, student government, social fraternities and sororities, and other clubs. Membership for Phi Sigma Pi requires about 5-10 hours per week. But we schedule lots of activities at various times to allow you to participate when it is convenient for you, and interviews are often conducted over lunch or dinner which are built-in breaks during the day anyway.
