What is Habitat
for Humanity?
Habitat for humanity is a non-profit, international organization which is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat has built some 100,000 houses around the world, providing more than 300,000 people with safe, decent affordable shelter.
Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible
donations of money and
materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help
of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families
at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly
mortgage payments are recycled into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used
to build more houses.
Join
us!! Send an email to Meredith so she can put you on the email list.
Student volunteers travel to the work site and work with partner families and
other volunteer groups to help build new houses. You will be involved in every
step of the construction process, and don't worry, no one is expecting you to
be a master carpenter. So join us as we build houses with those in need,
and while you're building houses, you will also be building friendships. Click

HABIFEST
and SLEEP OUT- April 10, 11
What else do I need to know?
We have lots of fun! When heading to the work site, we depart from in front
of the cafeteria (Lawrence Center) at approximately 8 am, and stay at the site
until mid afternoon. Lunch is not always provided, so it's a good idea
to bring some food or money. Wear boots or thick-soled shoes and dress for the
work and the weather! To see more photos from the site, click here
- March 23
- April 13
We are really excited to be participating in the first annual Habifest. It is
a program geared towards college chapters of Habitat to educate their college/university
about Habitat, it's mission and issues concerned with poverty and substandard
housing.
--We will have an information table in Sykes with educational activities
--You might pass by some college students sleeping in cardboard boxes in the
Quad on April 11. They will be representing the homeless people of the world.
Stop by to learn some facts about housing issues, or to drop in a dime for our
house sponsorship fund.
