Organization Recognition

To become a officially Recognized organization or club of West Chester University, you have to follow the process. The process goes as follows:

Steps toward recognition for new student-run organizations on campus:

  1. Formulate the idea for your group, know the purpose and find out if other people would be interested in being a part of your group.
  2. Contact a full-time faculty member to be your group’s advisor.
  3. Contact Charlie Warner in Sykes 238 and schedule a meeting with him. He will give you a request to organize form and you, your advisor, and Charlie Warner will have to sign this form.
  4. After this form is turned in, create the constitution/bylaws for your organization. Be sure to include all of the elements on the Guide given to you by Charlie Warner.

SGA has created template bylaws for you to use to make it easier to create them for you organization.

Click here to download them. It's a Microsoft Word document so you can edit it to you organization.

  1. When you have finished writing your constitution/bylaws, contact the Parliamentarian of the Student Government Association (SGA). You will be asked to attend one of SGA’s Bylaw Review Committee meetings, to present your bylaws/constitution for review.
  2. When the committee is sure that you have met all of the requirements for your constitution/bylaws, you will be invited to SGA’s general assembly meeting to present your organization to the Senate for approval. You will be asked to present a statement about your organization, as well as answer questions from the senate. The Bylaw Review committee will prepare you for these questions.
  3. After discussion, the senate will vote on your organization and the result of that vote will be presented to you by the Parliamentarian. At this time you will be permitted to apply to use university facilities for your group, as well as receive auxiliary funding (as determined by SGA’s Finance Committee).

To make your life easier, SGA has prepared a little list of questions

that will most likely be asked. Click Here to view them

  1. You may apply for a budget after your mandatory one-year probationary period.
