Description: The West Chester University Flute Ensemble is composed of top-seated flute players from the School of Music. The goals and objectives of the activity are three-fold: experience in a smaller yet more specialized ensemble, exposure to different types of music from classical to twentieth-century compositions, and opportunities to perform and conduct. The ensemble rehearses Wednesday evenings, and credit is available for those interested. In the past, the ensemble has represented West Chester University in activities such as the Pennsylvania Music Educators’ Association Conventions, radio broadcasts, the season opener for the Philadelphia Orchestra, an opening for the Children’s Garden at Longwood Gardens, and even several appearances in the Academy of Music. The Flute Ensemble also has appeared in Swope Auditorium, presenting recitals, concerts, and master classes with such greats as Julius Baker. The Flute Ensemble’s music is slated for release on a CD from Boston Records.
