Description: The Sociology Club aims to enhance a student’s knowledge of the current theories in sociology, as well as encourage and aid those students interested in pursuing graduate work in the field. The club’s goals are to establish scholarships from our campus alumni; set up funding, scholarships, and an information center for graduate students; and begin job placement programs in order to serve as a bridge to careers. Under the leadership of its elected student officers and faculty adviser, the club produces a student publication, becomes involved with sociology clubs from other universities, and opens its doors to the public as well as other departments at WCU. As an academic organization, the Sociology Club conducts research and survey projects as well as presents such activities as guest speakers and sociology-related films. One of the club’s goals is to guide the Department of Sociology by evaluating professors and voicing opinions on policy matters. Dues, which are subject to change, are collected each semester. General meetings are held every two weeks for members and all who are interested; officers meet on a weekly basis or at the discretion of club members.
