How to Become a Certified Student Leader

S.A.I.L. (Students Actively Involved in Leadership) is a non-credit, leadership development program open exclusively to West Chester University students. S.A.I.L. is based on West Chester University’s conceptual framework that the campus, community, and society need leaders with knowledge, skills, and integrity. The development of these qualities and skills are an imperative part of the University’s mission to provide a memorable and successful college experience.

Goals of S.A.I.L.
  • To build a foundation for leadership on the West Chester University campus.
  • To promote interaction, idea-sharing, and communication among student leaders.
  • To encourage involvement in co-curricular activities that enhance leadership development and the academic experience at West Chester.
  • To create opportunities for individuals to gain confidence in their own abilities and develop the skills, ethics, and vision necessary to help organizations and the community to grow and achieve their respective goals.
Benefits of S.A.I.L.

To the Individual: Acquire leadership skills and master new challenges, learn how to set goals, motivate yourself and others, resolve conflicts, make decisions, and explore career opportunities. Meet campus staff and members of the University community, develop your resume, meet other leaders and become a C.S.L. (Certified Student Leader) by completing the program.

To the University: Effective leadership within student organizations and the West Chester community, open and productive communication among all campus groups, leaders prepared to address issues and solve problems, and an expanded resource of trained and qualified leaders.

To the Community: Increased number of university graduates with leadership qualities and abilities, high self-esteem and confidence to address critical issues. The opportunity to share wisdom and experience with tomorrow's leaders.
