Certified Student
Leader
What is a Certified Student Leader?
The Office of Student Leadership and Involvement recognizes and awards
Certified Student Leaders with a framed certificate which attests to their
leadership experiences and skills acquired through their commitment to
becoming leaders at West Chester University throughout their college career.
Requirements to become a Certified Student Leader:
• Attend at least twelve S.A.I.L. programs or other programs approved
to substitute for a S.A.I.L. program.
• Participate fully in the Annual Student Leadership Experience in February
or attend a local/regional/national leadership conference approved
by the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement.
• Contribute 20 individual hours to community service, at least 3 different
experiences (minimum of 2 hours per location), throughout your college career.
Contact WCU’s Office of Service-Learning & Volunteer Programs
for possible service opportunities.
• Attend 4 Contemporary Issues programs throughout your college career.
Participating in one “Leadership on the Road” will equal
two Contemporary Issues programs.
• 6 additional leadership experiences – these may include additions
to any of the above requirements. These must be approved by the Office of
Student Leadership & Involvement. (Additional opportunities to
fulfill this portion could be attending campus lectures, participating
in class
trips, additional community service, volunteering in the Leadership
Development Resource Center, being elected or appointed to a student
organization leadership
position, etc.)
Privileges of being a Certified Student Leader:
• Your leadership experiences will be documented and a Framed
Certificate will be presented to you.
